My youngest daughter Lydia, or THE LYD, as she prefers to be called is having another teen girl over.  Apparently, come over means spend the weekend.  Times, they are a changin’.   Please, my mom would have to know the family, the other girls parents, when they came over on the Mayflower…  Now, parents look at me like I’m a nutter if I ask for a cell number in case I need them.

I asked for food allergies, preferences, etc…and the friend said NOT to experiment food-wise with her.  What?  Does that mean Mickey D’s all weekend?   She is gonna be hungry, my friends. 

I’ve been reading A Homemade Life by Molly Wizenberg.  Greedily parceling out chapters to read like I do with a brand new box of assorted chocolates.  Only one chapter per day…it’s been hard. 

Today I am thinking about making her banana bread…I hate banana bread but I have some bananas on the counter who, just like a hot cougar in a miniskirt, are about to go bad.  Her recipe was really interested – chocolate and ginger were included.  Hmmm….intriguing.  I will let you know the results.  If you are likewise intrigued, go to www.orangette.blogspot.com

Unlike its predecessor, the New York Times recipe, this cookie was good.  My hunnybunny gave it better than, “fine.”  Large kudos I assure you.  The cookie was crunchy at the edges and soft and chewy in the center.   (where’s the milk b/c I must now have a cookie for breakfast.)  Dorie’s cookie was not too salty.    I found the New York Times

supposedly perfect recipe to be pretentious, salty and I did not think  fridging the dough for 36 hours worth a substandard cookie.   I can think of better torture.  Perhaps this cookie is a case of Yankee overthinking and people believing what they read?  (What?  Well, I never…if it was in The Times it must be true.)  Ms. Greenspan’s cookie was so good that I’m considering trying her Sable cookie recipe.  Of course, down here I’ll just call it a Sandy.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could have a commercial break during our lives?  Like, right now even the ShamWow guy or even the hyper Billy Ray could appear.  And  after the commercial, my life changes.  However, I just haven’t found any sponsors for that. haha.

The one good thing out of the hysterectomy experience – I got a yard guy.  I definitely didn’t marry Bob Villa, and watching me do yard work has never made my hubby tired:-)  Now, let the grass grow!  My anus doesn’t clench anymore when it rains (knowing my yard will be 2 feet higher once it quits.) All because of Darren, and his riding mower.  Insert sigh of pure joy, kind of like the one that happens with a Hershey bar and no one else in the house to share it with.  sigh.
